In the sequel to Bungie’s popular shared-world shooter, the Guardians of Earth have finally met their match with a new villain who’s got his eyes on The Traveler. Our heroes, with their powers stripped away and all their gear destroyed, are pushed back to square one and have to relearn what it means to be a true Guardian of the Light. Though it’s sad to see our valuable Exotics fade into the ether, this turns out to be a blessing, as the next adventure for our characters will bring new challenges, new rewards, and an even greater feeling of satisfaction when succeeding in the next big battle. Though the general grind in Destiny 2 is the same as in the previous game, there are a number of major differences. During our extensive hands-on time before the launch of the game, we saw the many tweaks and additions coming to the game’s core pillars, and how different it’ll be compared to the years spent in the original Destiny. Let’s take a look at five of the biggest changes in Destiny 2. A More Directed and Focused Story In Destiny 1 , the story focused on re-establishing the influence of the Guardians, while battling the different enemy factions and dealing with the looming presence of the enigmatic force known as The Darkness. While its narrative was undoubtedly built on a universe with a vast history that had a lot of thought put into it, the story often struggled with conveying those ideas, opting for a more fragmented and episodic take to telling its story.

With the base game feeling like a big step backward from the original Destiny post-Rise of Iron, plenty of people were hoping an expansion would bring changes and new areas that would last for months. When I sat down to review Destiny 2 Warmind, I figured that surely after the outcry over how content-thin Curse of Osiris was that Bungie would have given us a meaty helping of lore, ground, and guns to explore. A big staple in BioWare games in the past such as the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series is that beautiful stories crafted in a way that throws the player all in. These branching narratives is what BioWare is known for but Anthem is shaking things up in more way than one. Luckily for those wanting to enjoy the online aspects but don’t have a steady group of friends to enjoy the co-op option, BioWare has confirmed that matchmaking will be available at launch for all content.
Much of the story can be done solo but there are certain in-game events available to earn higher level gear that does require four people. For those that don’t have a squad, matchmaking will be available so no one has to miss out on any part of the game. This is also applicable to generic quests and other undisclosed content options as well. It was there that we also learned about character customization and how choices will matter, we learned more about the characters and how the story will progress – basically, a lot of those multiplayer fears have been sated thanks to the open transparency from the Executive producer and the rest of the BioWare Anthem team.
Though I was impressed with my own hands-on time with the online title, it’s still hard not to feel the loss of the earlier Andromeda controversy. Bungie Still Thinking About Destiny Raid Matchmaking, Tight-Lipped on Possible Vex Expansion

Bungie is sort of doing something about Destiny raid LFG. Destiny: The Taken King is in pretty fine shape after the April update, with lots to see and do, and many delightful rewards to earn.
Gameplay[ edit ] Destiny gameplay Destiny’s style has been described as a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and MMO elements, but Bungie has avoided describing Destiny as a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to communicate with all other players in the game or on a particular server — as is the case in many conventional MMO games — Destiny includes on-the-fly matchmaking that allows players to communicate only with other players with whom they are “matched” by the game.
To communicate with other players in the game world, players must use their respective console’s messaging system. A social space on Mercury was added with the House of Wolves expansion, but requires players to go undefeated in the Trials of Osiris Crucible mode in order to access it. Character progression and classes[ edit ] Players are able to improve their characters, referred to as Guardians, by gaining experience points EXP — when a set number of experience points are accumulated, the player’s character will “level up” and gain improved statistics which further enhance performance in battle.
Quests , including the “main scenario” quest line, are specific tasks given to the player by non-player characters which reward items and EXP. Completing main scenario quests progresses the overarching plot of the game. Destiny features three character classes. Each class has their own specific upgrades, perks, special abilities, and two sub-classes that allow the player to finely tune their individual characters to provide a different play style.
After choosing a class, players select one of three species for their character: Human, Awoken bluish-gray-skinned descendants of Humans , or Exo humanoid machines.
Destiny’s Lack of Matchmaking Persists Leading Into Year 2
That would suck, right? Welcome to raids in Destiny. Destiny, the hotly-anticipated new game from Bungie , has elements from several different genres. Raids are encounters intended for very large groups of people that can take hours to complete. Raids almost always involve fighting your way through a challenging environment to kill an extremely dangerous boss monster at the end. When the boss dies, it drops very rare loot items like weapons and armor that are immensely powerful.
If you were hoping to log-in to Destiny, fire up the game menu and open an option to instantly find a good raid team via a matchmaking tool think again; that feature won’t be coming to the game.
Destiny 2 Should Destiny 2 have raid matchmaking? Bungie needs to make raids more accessible in Destiny 2, is matchmaking the best way to do that? I have long thought that Destiny should have matchmaking for raids. I remember when I first started playing Destiny and eventually getting to a high enough level to attempt Vault of Glass, it was extremely difficult and time-consuming to try to find a group to attempt the raid with.
Luckily, I eventually found a lot of new friends on Destiny and we would raid regularly but sometimes it can be difficult to find friends to do activities in Destiny with and this is why I think Destiny 2 should have raid matchmaking or something that makes it easier for people to get into raiding. Whilst adding in matchmaking to raids would probably be fairly straight forward for Bungie to do, there is undoubtedly several disadvantages to a fully matchmade raid.
How would raid matchmaking work If Bungie where to add raid matchmaking what form should it take? Should there be any pre-requesites before you can even begin matchmaking? Yes, there should be. There is probably no point attempting a raid if you speak English and the other 5 fireteam members speak Spanish. The game should then matchmake into a lobby first instead of flying straight into the raid. Whilst in the lobby, everybody can introduce themselves, find out what experience or knowledge they have of the raid mechanics and plan out any strategies.
I am certainly no game designer, so I am sure there are better ways to do raid matchmaking but I think the general principle of what I described above should work fairly well.
Bungie Has ‘No Plans’ to Bring Raid Matchmaking to Destiny
Bungie Isn’t Planning on Adding Raid Matchmaking to Destiny GO The developers are considering having some sort of looking at group functionality, but sometime in the distant future Dec 4, Bungie has confirmed yet again that there are currently no plans to bring raid matchmaking to its sci-fi first-person shooter, Destiny. The way this currently works, you can’t really enjoy some of the game’s end content unless you have a couple of friends with you.
Destiny’s raids take six people to complete, and you can only invite gamers on your friends list to join you in attempting to take down its bosses and — with a bit of luck — get mad loot. Other games that feature such adventurous pieces of content, requiring that multiple people band together and work in unison for the greater good, have long since implemented methods for gamers to enjoy everything with perfect strangers.
World of Warcraft, the most notorious massively multiplayer online role-playing game, even went as far as to implement raid finders where you can assemble motley crews of adventurers, in order to streamline the process of taking down its meanest dragons.
Although always being on fans’ PvE wishlist, Destiny in its current incarnation lacks the capacity for matchmaking with raids, but it’s possible that the action-RPG could see that change.

But a challenging co-op gauntlet isn’t the only thing fueling our lust for better loot drops and great shooting — there are plenty of changes, big and small, that make Destiny a much better game. The short-but-sweet campaign, menacing Taken enemies, clever bosses, and rewarding loot system, combined with another inventive raid, have made these late-night play sessions a regular thing.
This expansion is the shot in the arm that Destiny needed. Exit Theatre Mode The campaign is a fun highlight, with a succinct six-hour story that kept me intrigued and invested with clever level designs, gorgeous cinematic cutscenes, and funny dialogue.
Destiny considering adding matchmaking for Raids
Sturm Why we love it: At a base level Sturm is just a great hand cannon. The extended barrel gives it a longer range than similar guns, and the extended mag lets you blast away for longer although is countered by a slower reload. Energy weapon kills also boost its precision damage until you reload. However, the real bonus here is that kills with Sturm will give you extra energy weapon ammo.

Rise of Iron is the latest of these expansions, adding in a new campaign, new weapons and gear, and a few new features. What to learn a little bit more about the mysterious Traveller, or about the Golden Age of humanity?
Fans have been asking for in-game access for the previous two years now, but Bungie has not commented on the possibility of this happening. But alas, two years later, we still have to go browser surfing. Irrelevant activities have been a problem for a long time, and Bungie needs to fix it.
