Just as Swift’s mainstream success has made most people forget her country roots, Definitive’s mainstream success has made most audiophiles forget that the company got its start with a relatively unknown and mildly controversial technology: A bipolar speaker has drivers on the front and rear of the enclosure, so it directs sound forward and backward. This creates a more spacious, but less focused, sound. It’s similar to the way electrostatic and magnetoplanar panel speakers work, except both sides of a bipolar speaker operate in-phase, and all the bipolar speakers I’ve seen use conventional drivers that offer better dynamics with, some would argue, less delicacy than panel speakers. As with the previous BP Series, the output of the rear driver array is toned down in level to achieve a more satisfying compromise between the spacious bipolar sound and the more focused sound of a conventional speaker. The company says the rear array is reduced in level by -6dB relative to the front array. The rear array in the BP also has just one 4. Both sides sport a single 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter.

The company owns the Cabasse Acoustic Center design facility in western France from which most of the speaker designs emanate. While not widely distributed in the United States, Cabasse’s audiophile speakers have a very unique look to them with a “eye” for a tweeter as some suggest. Visually, there may be no more unique looking speaker on the marketplace today.
The company has been a pioneer in the electronics sector in Brest.

Return to the Main Index. Sometimes there just isn’t enough information on electric instruments and amps to allow them to be properely dated. And many people ask me to try and determine the year of their old amplifier, or to help them with the year of their older off-brand electric guitar. Since I primarily collect amps by Fender, and guitars by Gibson, Fender, Martin, National, Epiphone, Gretsch and Rickenbacker, I really can’t help them with these other less popular brands.

When Klipsch decided to insert a new wireless music system at the top of its line of Bluetooth speakers, it wasn’t messing around with the Klipsch KMC 3 Wireless Music System. The inch-wide Bluetooth speaker can hardly be described as pocket-sized, but its 7.
Fill it up with eight D-sized batteries, and Klipsch says you can play it wirelessly for 8 hours at its maximum volume. When Klipsch mentions maximum volume, watch out. The company claims dB of maximum acoustic output, loud enough to damage your hearing if you listen to it long enough. Its amplifier cranks out an impressive 65 Watts W peak of bi-amped goodness.

The company was founded in Maryland in by Frank McIntosh, a broadcast industry consultant seeking a decent audio amplifier to sell to his clients. Gow eventually took the presidency when Frank McIntosh retired in All the while, McIntosh gear—which came to include other electronics, source components, and speakers—featured not only superb sonics but also rock-solid build quality and distinctive industrial design: But through it all, McIntosh itself has remained a distinctly American operation and success story out of Binghamton, where it still manufactures.
The most notable benefit of Play-Fi—besides allowing you to purchase wireless speakers or soundbars at a wide range of performance levels and prices from different brands—is that the Wi-Fi-based system is compatible with high-resolution audio files above the You can also mate any two Play-Fi speakers for stereo—hence, the pair of RS s that showed up at my doorstep.
Klipsch RF82 II Latecomers to specialty audio may be excused for not knowing that the Klipschorn was integral to the development of hi-fi in the s and s and represented a leap forward in home music playback in its day. Everyone else has probably heard or owned a Klipsch speaker. Before the Klipschorn still in production since , most people listened to their records through a variation of the Victrola. It could also generate high volume levels with only a few watts of power.
How does a horn work? When you cup your hands around your mouth as you try to shout to your friend across the street, your cupped hands act as an acoustic impedance-matching transformer that more efficiently couples your voice to the air. Important benefits accrue from relieving the amplifier of so much work, like lower distortion and greater dynamic range.

Speaker company EIA codes There are several ways of identifying a manufacturer, or particular part number of a component in most audio gear that’s been manufactured since the mid s. There’s an EIA Electronic Industries Association code that identifies the manufacturer, or company, sometimes stamped either in ink, or metal embossing, or ID tag on the particular component – in this case the speaker.
Sometimes there is also another series of numbers stamped on the piece, this is the OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer part numbers above or below the EIA code, and in some cases parts makers elected not to include the EIA codes, so not all parts have them. These “Code” formats were not completely standardized, but a little deciphering will generally yield the info that’s needed to identify the speaker in question. For example if you have on a speaker, you can tell that it’s a Jensen speaker, but the year is either , , or from the ‘3’, and the ’25’ is the week of production.
The model type, or number, is sometimes stamped on the speaker frame as well; for example P10R, or C10Q.
May 23, · Hello all! I’m a long time lurker but just now signed up because I had time and the will to open up the back of my Forte II’s. Also as one might imply from the name, the tweeter assembly is decoupled from the cabinet via a gel ring to keep unwanted resonances from interfering with the tweeter. The added metal screen covering is a nice touch to keep little fingers out. It should be noted due to the minimum impedance that you will want to pair the with an amplifier stable into a 4 ohm load.

Many thanks for the speakers! They arrived at the 27th an I installed them today. And, what should I say, they work… perfect! And, of course, i will recommend your company my friends. Best wishes from the snowy Austria! The skilled technicians at the Speaker Exchange deserve all positive endorsements and accolades and far more.. In my opinion they did the impossible. Even the original makers of these fine speakers at OHM Accoustics state the skilled technicians no longer exist and have long retired.
Ohm should refer their loyal clients that have a desire to continue hearing these classic speakers, to the Speaker Exchange. The skilled staff repaired several other Ohm speakers, with the same glorious results. Thank You Bob C. Fruiland Park FL re: Thanks again for your service! I may send in my other one later so they both match in frequency characteristics.
